Let me shed light on the ‘Generations’ stuff to make it more conceivable. The generational gap was initially referred to as the number of years between the birth of parents and their children. This gap was usually of 20 years, but due to many sociological factors, the generation gap has exceeded up to 30 years. This duration was simply unreasonable, so after revision, the generation gap was decided to be 15 years, which is more appropriate.
Highlighting recent generations:
Generation Y (1980-1994)
Generation Z (1995-2009)
Generation Alpha (2010-2024)
Generation Alpha is technically the outcome of generation Z, which means generation Alpha certainly is an evolution of its previous generation. This generation possesses children from millennials and Z generation.
Now, if we look at the lifestyle of generation Z, certain key points that deserve some light are:
The Digital world
Generation Z and millennials have been through the journey of digitalization. They have seen it all from landline phones, keypad mobile phones to the touch screen ones. From the time when there was only one phone at home to the time when even children of age 10 have their mobile phones. This has surely brought us a dynamic and productive lifestyle, but it has many demerits in regard to our physical, mental, and spiritual health. If not millennials, generation Z and Alpha have come to life in this digital world, and they are more familiar with this than their body and food.
Redefined Work Life
The complete immersion of people from generation Y and Z into their work environment is solely responsible for most of the health and social issues. The competition and the rule of “survival of the fittest” are driving these generations crazy obsessing over their fine and extraordinary lifestyle influence by the outer environments like their idols, social media influencers, etc.
Obliteration of the ‘Third Place’
Where the first place is home and second place in the workplace, the thirds place is where people socialize for fun, growth, and other social activities. But because of their redefined work life, people are making the third place as their workplace, cutting out social interaction other than their office or work-related ones. This is bringing mental disorders like depression, anxiety, and other stressful conditions.
Moving towards Holistic Approach
People are becoming aware of the destruction this lifestyle is bringing to the generations. The generations are progressing limitlessly in terms of digital globalization but are deteriorating in terms of the quality life. The shrinking life expectancy of the coming generations is the steadfast proof of the hazards of this lifestyle. But as we say, “Better late than never,” after this reality check, people have become mindful of their living habits.
Here are some improvements to Holistic Health:
- Awareness campaigns: In many countries of the world, organizations organize events to let people know of their lifestyle approaches and consequences.
- Physical, Mental, and Spiritual Health Practices: People have started indulging in different practices to improve their overall health. Yoga and meditation are at the top of these.
- Social clubs: There are plenty of clubs in our cities which offer social interactions of people with like interests, similar disabilities, and lifestyle. For Example, Poetry clubs, story-telling clubs, racing clubs, singing clubs, clubs for disabled people, etc. People sharing their experiences without the fear of being judged and getting the support of society is the key point here.
- Healthy Eating Habits: Awareness towards health has brought these people to reflect on their eating habits as it is believed that we are the product of hat we eat. Eating healthy will lead us to a healthy and happy lifestyle, whereas junk food will only make us look and feel like junk.
This way, modern generations are leaning towards a healthy lifestyle by adopting the holistic approach.
