COVID Vaccine in the World and Their Effectiveness

In India, the second wave of COVID-19 has already begun to make a huge impact. Day by day, affected rates and death rates caused by Corona are rising. Not only in India, but this epidemic is also becoming fatal worldwide. In this situation, vaccination is the only way to combat Corona.

In India, vaccination began in March 2021 for people aged between 45-60. Officially, more than 100 million people have got at least a single dose of vaccine, and 18 million people are fully vaccinated. Currently, many international and national research centers and medical companies worldwide are proceeding to develop vaccines further.

How effective are these vaccines?

Here we will discuss three vaccines- Sputnik V, Covaxin, and Covishield because India has confirmed the usage of these vaccines for the general public.

●     Sputnik V

Moscow’s Gamaleya institute formed this vaccine. The cold-type virus with which it is made works as a carrier to send a tiny part of Coronavirus into the body. It is safe to use and has less risk of becoming sick. But in the second shot uses a slightly different type of vaccine.

This second shot has to be taken after 21 days of the first dose.

Storage:

Store the vaccine in a regular refrigerator at temperatures of between 5°C-7°C.

Protection:

Sputnik V provides approximately 92% protection against Coronavirus.

●     COVAXIN

This vaccine is developed by Bharat biotech. The dead COVID virus is put into use to form an inactivated vaccine. As it is an inactivated vaccine, the chances of getting sick are meager.

The second dosage of vaccine needs to be taken after four weeks of the first dose.

Storage:

Store Covaxin at a temperature of between 2°C-8°C.

Protection:

According to the phase-3 trial results, this vaccine gives 81% protection against COVID-19.

●     Covishield

Oxford-AstraZeneca initially formed this vaccine. Later, it is manufactured locally by Serum Institutions of India (SII). A vitiated form of the common cold virus from chimpanzees is put in use to develop this vaccine. It does not cause any post-vaccination illness.

The second dose of this vaccine should be taken within 4-12weeks after the first shot.

Storage:

It can be reserved safely at a temperature of between 2°C-8°C.

Protection:

The total dose of this vaccine provides 90% defense against COVID-19.

Vaccination helps us to keep safe and stay safe. Though new strains of Coronavirus have knocked on the doors of our country, increasing the risk and fear among the people, vaccination can reduce risk factors noticeably.

However, even after vaccination, it is essential to follow all safety guidelines against COVID, like wearing a mask, maintaining social distancing, and stepping out of the house, only if necessary.
