Every year on 12th May, International Nurse Day is celebrated to appreciate the contribution of nurses to society and honor the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale.
Florence found the concept of modern nursing and gave nursing a new face and reputation after curing the wounded soldiers during the Crimean War in Constantinople. Due to her applaudable contribution, she was started to know as “The Lady with the Lamp,” who used to make rounds at night to take care of the wounded soldiers.
It is vital to show respect and gratitude to the nurses, who have been taking care of patients like their own family members in such difficult times uncomplainingly when we cannot be with them. It is our duty as civilians to make them know how proud and grateful we are to them, and they are being pushed towards the bright future where they are valued, influential, and are needed.
Every year International Nurses Council comes up with different themes through which they show appreciation to the nurses and try to make progress and mend ways for the bright future of nurses.
Health and care sector is incomplete without nurses. This year, nurses have come up as real heroes with doctors in fighting against COVID-19 and showed what a significant role they play in the smooth working of the healthcare department.
International Council of Nurses has announced that they want to redesign their work system and build a solid and innovative team to shape the successful future of healthcare.
The council every year organizes multiple seminars and events, where they connect with the nurses worldwide. This year, INC organized a photo contest in which people were asked to portray the reality of the pandemic and how nurses are fighting against it.
Also, the council every year asks nurses to upload their case studies about the work they have been doing and work done related to the theme of the year. This year, INC wants their work stories during COVID-19 and ideas for taking a step forward towards nursing innovations.
Each year a service is held in London’s Westminister Abbey Church, where a symbolic lamp is passed from one nurse to another, which is finally placed on the altar by the dean. The passing symbolizes the respect and sharing of knowledge with each other.
A nurse is the one who a patient first and last when they visit the hospital. They profoundly are superstars!
