The Blue Zones are the five areas of the world: Okinawa, Japan; Sardinia, Italy; Nicoya, Costa Rica; Ikaria, Greece, and Loma Linda, California, with the longest-living and healthiest populations. According to research, they had nine things in common.
The longevity successes come down to their lifestyle and how they live; some takeaways can be implemented to an American lifestyle without too much work. In a seminar conducted by the Global Wellness Summit, Dan Buettner, a journalist and expert on Blue Zones, shared some takeaways of top longevity nutrition tips gleaned from years of researching how these communities live. Here are the main key takeaways:
1. 5 p.m is Red wine time
Having meals with friends is a ritual every day. Red wine is everyone’s choice. There are a few of evidence in Blue Zones that a couple of glasses a day, especially with friends and a meal. It lowers your mortality. The five Blue Zones communities drink alcohol as part of their routine and culture.
Wine is good for heart and rich in antioxidants, has some anti-inflammatory properties, and reduces the risk of heart disease.
2. Indulge in plant-based food.
Blue Zones folks know plant-based recipes like the back of their hand and have been for passed from one generation to another. “They eat 90 to 100 percent plant-based food beyond a shadow of a doubt,” A plant-based diet is right for your heart, gut health, and brain, plant-based recipes have less carbon footprint than meat and dairy products.
3. Plenty of carbs on their plates

Meat is a celebratory food in the Blue Zones. It is normally consumed about five times per month. People in these communities stick to a portion like the size of the deck of cards.
5. Water, coffee, and wine is their beverage choice
In Blue Zones, people drink six glasses of water a day, plus coffee in the morning and a glass of wine with dinner. No sugary beverages like soda, which are hazardous for your health
